Pool Ownership Tips: Caring for Your Brand New Pool

Even in the off-season, you need to do what you can to keep your new pool well-maintained. That way, you can have more fun once spring and summer return instead of waiting around for cracks, leaks, and more serious problems to be repaired!

Congratulations on your brand new pool! Owning a pool is a huge source of fun, but it is also a great deal of responsibility. Even in the off-season, you need to do what you can to keep your pool well-maintained. That way, you can have more fun once spring and summer return instead of waiting around for cracks, leaks, and more serious problems to be repaired!

Circulate the Water

Common sense dictates that you should completely drain the pool before closing it for the winter. In reality, you shouldn’t follow through on this. Leaving some water in your pool is actually a good idea! The plumbing system is a necessary part of the pool, and you need to be sure that it continues to work no matter what mother nature throws at it. There is plenty of maintenance involved, especially if the pump needs to run anywhere between 8-12 hours a day. That’s the length of a typical workday!

Get the Filters Running

You mustn’t forget about the filters built into the pool as well. Any particulates that have settled into the water are pulled away by the filters. In the end, your water is much cleaner than it was before, and there’s something to be said about that. At some point, the filters will become too clogged to work as they should. Changing the cartridge or running a process called back-washing will clear out the filters for you. Cleaning the filters or replacing them entirely is another step in the right direction. The start of a new year represents a change in your lifestyle. If you had your pool installed around this time last year (as 2018 turned into 2019) then it’s probably a good time to assess the overall condition of your pool

Sanitize the Pool

Finally, take the time to make sure that your pool is sanitized. Special pool cleaning chemicals can seek and destroy algae and bacteria that are making your pool unsafe to use. Chlorine is one of the most popular chemicals for sanitizing pool water. It helps that chlorine tablets are easy to use, too!
