These joints allow the slabs of concrete to expand and contract depending on weather conditions. So what do you need to know about pool caulking? Let’s find out.

Brand new pools are somewhat different from their older counterparts. A foam strip forms a barrier between the deck and the coping stones underneath it. This component is part of the expansion joints. These joints allow the slabs of concrete to expand and contract depending on weather conditions. So what do you need to know about pool caulking? Let’s find out.

The Purpose of Caulking

Ice can damage every part of your home’s exterior. Not only does mother nature wreak havoc on your home’s roofing, siding, gutters, and windows, but she can also ruin the swimming pool that you have worked so hard to turn into the envy of the neighborhood. Pool caulking can help mitigate the effects left behind by snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. The concrete used in your pool’s construction can also expand and contract. Although this might not sound like a problem, it can turn into a nightmare if the walls begin to leak, crack, or crumble.

How Much You Need

Now that you know more about pool caulking let’s move on. The next step is to determine how much caulk you will need. Use more tubes of caulk than you think you might use, at least at first. Doing everything on your own is inadvisable, and if you run into any trouble, then you need to get in touch with the team here at Sunrise Premiere Pool Builders right away! In any case, be sure to measure the width and length of the joint that you need to recaulk. For best results, use a roll of measuring tape to determine the dimensions of the pool’s perimeter.

Applying the Caulk

Before you run out to buy caulk, make sure all of your measurements are correct. If you have ever reapplied caulk to the tile and grout in your bathroom, then you know how messy the job can be. The same principle applies to your swimming pool. Use a sharpened knife to cut away the old caulk. Use a pressure washer to blast away any debris or dirt that could get in the way. Then start adding caulk, moving as quickly as you can to avoid accidental overflows.
