How to Make Your Spa Safer For Your Family

Slipping is a serious problem for spas; the surfaces are almost always wet when in use, and those who use spas are already exhausted and trying to sooth tired muscles.  It’s easy to lose your grasp on safety when you’re using your spa.  There are plenty of other dangers that could affect your family, and it’s important to know exactly how to make your spa safe for everyone.  Read on for some quick safety tips that will help you immensely.

Add Steps

Steps can make it much easier for your spa to be slip-proof.  Instead of awkwardly vaulting yourself over the side, steps make it easier to cautiously enter the spa.  You can place them externally or internally, depending on the model of your spa.  This is also helpful for children and the elderly who aren’t able to enter without steps.

Set a Temperature

Kids can’t bathe in extremely hot water, so instead of the factory setting of 104 degrees, consider lowering the temperature to around 98 or even lower.  To begin with, don’t let your kids soak for more than fifteen minutes at a time.  It’s best to restrict children entirely from the spa, but occasionally, if the spa is made safe, they can enjoy it just as much as the adults.

Make Rules

As with everything else you do with your family, rules must be set surrounding your spa so no one gets hurt.  Have set hours that can be used for spa time, and restrict it at any other time.  You can also purchase covers that are too heavy for children to lift by themselves, so they must ask for permission when they want to use the spa.  These rules can do wonders in helping to keep your family safe.
