What are the Pros and Cons of a Beach Entry Pool?

Sunrise Premiere Pool Builders Beach Entry Pool

Beach entry pools aren’t for everyone, but they can be an amazing addition to your home.

A beach entry pool (also called a zero entry pool) is a type of specialized swimming pool that has a large, shallow entry area and a gradual slope that leads to the deeper end. These pools forgo the use of ladders and stairs in favor of a more natural approach. This style of pool isn’t for everyone, so it’s important to consider some of the pros and cons of beach entry pools before deciding if it’s the right choice for you.

What’s Good?

There is a lot to like about beach entry pools.

  • Aesthetic: These pools often look absolutely luxurious and delightful. They can be freeform or rectangular, so they’re guaranteed to look amazing once built.
  • Relax: You can use the entry area of this pool to relax in the sun and get a tan. You can also sit or lie in the shallow water that will be wonderfully warm due to the sun being able to heat it up more quickly.
  • Ease: The slope makes it much easier to use. Stairs and ladders can be difficult for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The gradual slope is a great solution.
  • Warmth: The shallow areas of a beach entry pool will warm more quickly, making it much warmer than standard pools. There’s something wonderful about stepping into warm water when you want to go for a swim.

What’s Less Good?

Beach entry pools are awesome, but they do come with some drawbacks.

  • Cost: The biggest drawback of a beach entry pool is that they cost more than standard pools, mainly due to the slope.
  • Size: A gradual slope takes up space, so these pools are often bigger than their standard counterparts. Smaller yards aren’t suitable for this style of pool.
  • Laps: The gradual slope of a beach entry pool hinders the ability to swim laps, so this isn’t the best swimming pool for anyone who is looking for a pool to serve that purpose.

What’s the Verdict?

Ultimately, whether a beach entry pool is right for you depends on your personal circumstances and what you want your pool to do for you and your family. While they do have some downsides that could be dealbreakers for some people, a beach entry pool is a great addition to many homes that are looking for a pool they can relax in.
