Pool Safety Tips

A fence around your pool is a great way to enhance your pool safety!

If you haven’t re-opened your pool already, it is probably something that is going to happen in the near future. The summer is right around the corner and that means it’s time for some fun in the pool! Having a pool in your home is a great investment, but safety is the first priority. Here are some pool safety tips that everyone could benefit from!

Fencing

You want to have the proper fencing or barrier around your pool. This helps to keep anyone from sneaking into your pool when you aren’t around and also helps to keep people from falling into the pool. You also want to cover your pool when you aren’t using it for extra protection.

Children

Anytime there are children swimming in the pool, there should be adult supervision at all times. In addition to this, you want to remain close to them so that you can quickly help them if something happens. A life jacket is a good idea for any young children or anyone that can’t swim.

Maintenance

Without proper maintenance, your pool could be dangerous to anyone swimming in it. This means keeping it clean at all times, which is easy to do with a pool net and a pool vacuum. It is also really important to keep the chemicals balanced because failure to do so can irritate the skin and eyes or cause algae to grow in the water.

Establish Rules

Just like a public pool, you want to establish pool safety rules and make sure they are enforced. This includes things like avoiding drain covers, walking instead of running, never swimming alone, and no diving (unless you have a pool deep enough).

First Aid

It’s a good idea to train everyone in the home to react to any water emergencies just in case. There are water safety courses that would be beneficial to all pool owners. In addition to this, taking CPR courses is a great idea to help enhance pool safety as well as just provide you with that skill. It’s a good idea to always keep a first aid kit close by as well.
