How to Deep Clean Your Swimming Pool

Sunrise Premiere Pool Builders Deep Clean

It’s a good idea to deep clean your swimming pool before you close it this fall, so your spring opening is faster and smoother.

Before you start to winterize your pool and close it up, now is a good time to give it a closer inspection and do a deep clean if you think your pool could use one. This can save you time next year when it’s time to open your pool up again, so you don’t have to wait to jump right in and enjoy the water once the weather warms back up.

Drain

Make sure you know how to drain your pool properly. You should have been provided with instructions that tell you how to do this when your pool was installed. Above-ground pools with a main drain can be easily drained, but those without will require some extra equipment. In-ground pools will have a built-in setup that allows you to drain them, and your instructions will inform you of how to do it safely and effectively.

Debris

If there is any debris collected around your swimming pool, use a stiff-bristled broom to loosen it up and clear it out. For any areas that have caked-on dirt or other particles, a stainless steel brush is optimal if your pool is made of concrete. For vinyl or fiberglass pools, skip the stainless steel brush and opt for something less abrasive, such as a melamine sponge, to clear out the gunk without damaging your pool.

Power Wash

Once you’ve given your pool a good scrub-down, it’s time to power wash it. For the best results, coat your swimming pool with mild soap and then give it a good rinse with the power washer. This should leave your pool looking brand new, so you’ll be able to open it up and jump right in once spring or early summer comes around again.

Refill

Once the power washing is complete, check your pool over once more to make sure it’s up to your standards. Once you’re happy with the deep clean, you can refill your pool and then begin to winterize it before the first frost sets in.

Hire a Professional

If you want your pool to get a deep clean before you close it up for the winter but simply don’t have the time or tools to do it, call in a professional pool cleaning service. They will have the tools and experience needed to make sure your pool gets as clean as possible, saving you a lot of time and effort.
