Designing Your Dream Pool

Designing Your Dream Pool

When you’re ready to start planning your pool, make sure to consider your options to ensure you get the pool of your dreams.

Summer is almost here, and there’s still time to build the pool of your dreams! Adding a pool to your Maryland home is a great way to encourage outdoor play, exercise, and increase the value of your home. Your family and visitors of any age will delight in the chance to enjoy a swim and to reap the many health benefits that pools offer. Most importantly, adding a pool to your home will help frame the memories you’ll make with loved ones for years to come. When you’re ready to start planning your pool, make sure to consider your options to ensure you get the pool of your dreams.

Learn-to-Swim Steps and Sitting Ledges

While they are often intended for children, learn to swim steps are a benefit for pool-goers of all ages. For older individuals who might not be able to use a ladder or those who like to adjust to the pool temperatures slowly, pool steps are a valuable asset. If you intend to age in place or if you are hoping to make your pool all ability friendly, adding a ramp allows for those in wheelchairs to use the pool as well. Accessibility aside, steps and ledges are also fantastic for small children just learning to swim.

Surrounding Paving

The pool may be the focus, but the surrounding area is just as important. If your paving around the pool deck is too rough, slippery, or hot, it may lead to unwanted injury. Textured concrete, which is a common choice for its ease and affordability, often leads to torn skin and sore feet.

Pool Storage

Having adequate pool storage is one of the most underrated aspects of good pool design. Not only do you need to keep all of your pool floats, etc. safe, but you need a dry, secure space to store pool tools and testing equipment, chemicals, and even your pool cover. Keeping these items secure and dry will help them to last longer and work better.

Water Depth

Shallow end vs. deep end, which will you focus on? Every pool should have a substantial area of about three feet in depth that allows most swimmers to touch bottom while enjoying the pool. However, if you hope to use your pool for swimming laps or if you have a mostly older audience, you may find that having a larger deep end will be favorable.
