Excess Water
Massive rainstorms can flood your lawn and ruin your landscape, turning your yard into a mud pit. If they can do that, just imagine what they can do to your swimming pool! All of that water falling from the sky could cause your pool to overflow, especially if it is an open-air model. When you know a storm is coming, take the time to lower the water level before it arrives. This will minimize the amount of time you will need to spend skimming or brushing the pool to get the debris out of it later on. By following this advice, you can also protect your deck and patio that is around the pool. It’s a good idea to invest in a submersible pump or a pool cover pump, as these devices will make life easier for you when it comes to maintaining your pool. You can also use them to decrease the chances of your pool overflowing due to the rain.
Contamination
Another problem you will have to deal with is contamination. Consider where your planters or gardens are located in regards to the placement of the swimming pool. Soil and dirt can easily leak from these landscape features into the pool as a result of runoff after the rain ends. Mud and debris can also fill up your pool, which would be a disaster. Luckily, there are some measures you can take to clean up your pool and remove the pollutants. Leaf rakes and slow vacuums can help make this process easier so you will have more time to spend with your family after the pool is cleaned up. Clarifiers, flocculants, and phosphate removers also make a huge difference. Rainwater itself is clean, but that doesn’t mean it won’t catch other particulates as it falls to the ground due to the influence of gravity. Some of these particles include dust, pollen, oil, and algae – all of which can make your pool water grimy and damage the systems that it contains.
