Thanks to buoyancy, stretching in water is often more comfortable with less strain. Hot water increases your body temperature, which improves circulation and releases endorphins. Yoga in your hot tub has major health benefits!

Your hot tub is a great source of relaxation. After a stressful day, you can sink into your hot tub and let your worries soak away. But did you know your hot tub might also be the ideal place for a workout? You’ve probably heard about the benefits of water exercise in pools, but your hot tub is no exception. Let’s talk more about how to practice yoga in your hot tub and what the benefits are!

Practicing Yoga in Your Hot Tub

Yes, you read that right. Yoga! You! Your hot tub! Do you struggle with uncomfortable joint pain? Do you suffer from minor or major aches and pains in your back, shoulders, neck or hips? If so, you probably haven’t even considered yoga out of fear you might not be flexible enough or well suited for the practice. You’ll be happy to know that you are wrong. Yoga in your hot tub might actually be a comfortable alternative for you.

Health Benefits of Hot Tub Exercise

Thanks to buoyancy, stretching in water is often more comfortable with less strain. Hot water increases your body temperature, which improves circulation and releases endorphins. Exercising in the warmth can soothe minor aches and pains and improve sleep, joint health, cardiovascular function, spinal health and flexibility. All of these factors lead to a healthier overall immune system.

Hot Tub Yoga Stretches

You don’t have to be a yoga expert to practice these stretches in your hot tub. Here are a couple examples of areas you can easily target with these stretches:

  • Hamstrings: Use a strap or band if you aren’t able to reach your foot. Wrap the band around the bottom of your foot and (while holding the straps) try to extend your leg as straight as you can. Alternate feet, and don’t forget to take deep breaths!
  • Shoulders/Upper Arms: While in your hot tub, lift one arm overhead then bend your elbow to reach behind you and touch your upper back. Using your other hand, gently pull your elbow towards your head and lean your head back. Repeat on opposite side.
