Plunge into the chilly Chesapeake Bay this January in support of the Maryland Special Olympics!

Winter can be a rough time for pool and spa lovers alike. Unless you have a year-round hot tub on your property, chances are you are spending your cold days dreaming of the next time you can take a dip. Good news! You can still take a January dip in Maryland. Bad news… it might not be the warm and refreshing one you had in mind. Join your fellow brave-hearted Marylanders and “Take to the Waters” of the Chesapeake Bay for the 20th Annual MSP (Maryland State Police) Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics Maryland!

What is a Polar Bear Plunge?

A polar bear plunge is a traditional winter event held in various locations nationwide where participants willingly enter a body of water, despite the ever-so-chilly winter temperatures. Participants of the MSP Polar Bear Plunge will hurl themselves into the Chesapeake Bay by entry of Sandy Point State Park on January 30, 2016. It is not required that you fully submerge your body in the water, submerging only your ankles still counts. But you know, go big or go home, right?

Why Would Someone Get Into Freezing Water – On Purpose?!

In almost all cases, polar bear plunges are assembled to benefit a charity. In this case, the MSP Polar Bear Plunge benefits Maryland’s children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Your participation will enable athletes with these disabilities (about 7,169 around Maryland) to support in the life-changing benefits of participating in over 24 sports with Special Olympics Maryland. Now doesn’t that make you want to take the plunge?
