Prepare your pool for springtime and make the season last when you clean your pool filters.

The First Day of Spring is this Sunday on March 20. Of course, in true Maryland fashion, the current weather forecast is calling for snow! Hopefully that changes and we can go back to enjoying beautiful springtime weather. Before you know it, it will be time to reopen your swimming pool and entertain guests in the heat of summer. Are your pool filters prepared for the coming season? Sunrise Premiere Pool Builders is here to help you find out how to prepare your pool filters for spring before your big grand opening.

Purchase Proper Pool Filters

We’ve all heard the phrase, “You get what you pay for.” This rings true in regards to pool filters and many other things. You may be tempted by cheaper pool filter options, but for the most part cheap cartridges are not going to deliver the quality you need for a successful pool season. Be sure to purchase a high quality cartridge type filter that has a pleated fiberglass mat or synthetic filter media to avoid costly upkeep and replacement.

Clean Your Pool Filters Thoroughly

Take the time to thoroughly and properly clean your pool filters before your pool opening. You can use a spray nozzle to wash dirt and debris from your pool filter. The best way to clean your pool filters is to rinse debris off the filter before it dries. Dried debris has a tendency to set into the filter and be peskier to remove. If there is dried debris on your filter, try tapping it off or using a paintbrush to remove it.  After you have cleaned the filters, lay them somewhere in direct sunlight to try.

If you want to clean your pool filters using a chemical approach, you can place a few dirty filters into a large bucket with a combination of six parts water to one part pool chlorinator. Let the filters soak in the bucket while covered for one to five days for the best results. Rinse the filters in a bucket of clean water afterward.
