If you are looking for a cool and fun way to stay fit look no further than water exercise. This low impact workout burns calories without putting strain on your joints, and will help you feel fit and happy in no time. A lot of this type of exercise feels more like play than work. In order to learn more about the benefits of water exercise in your own pool, read on.

The K-Tread

Did you know that simply treading water can burn as many calories a minute as a 6 mile per hour run? You can amp up the exercise intensity with targeted smart exercises, such as the K-tread. In order to do this exercise, follow these steps.

-While in the deep end of the pool, tread water. Make small circles with cupped hands, and then lift your right leg straight in front of you at hip level while you reach the toes of your left foot toward bottom of pool. Hold this for 5 seconds.

-Then switch legs quickly. Bring your right leg down exactly as you raise your left leg, and hold this new position for 5 seconds. Continue this for 30 seconds and alternate sides.

-Be sure to squeeze your glutes and quads in order to keep your legs straight.

The Otter Roll

This water exercise staple targets the back, butt, and abs. In order to do it, you need a beach ball.

-While hugging the beach ball to your chest, float on your back with your legs extended and your feet together.

-Then roll toward the left and over the top of the ball and use your whole body to do a full roll, revolving entirely around the ball, like an otter.

-Continue for 30 seconds while alternating the direction you roll.

The Pike Scull

This exercise targets your hips, abs, and arms.

-While standing in the shallow end of the pool, sit back in the water while treading with your hands by your sides. Then lift your legs so you fold at the hips and form a wide V with your head and toes poking above the surface.

-Make sure to maintain the V position as you move your cupped hands by your hips in small circles to tread water and propel yourself into a forward swim. Do this for 30 seconds.
