How To Prepare To Close Your Pool For Fall

Fall is here. It’s time to close that outdoor swimming pool. Sunrise Premiere is here to help by giving you a few pointers on how to close your pool quick and easy.

Before you close your pool, you need to do a few important tasks to make sure your pool is in great shape for summer. Here is what you’ll need to do:

-The 5 days before you close your pool, change the water balance to pH 7.2-7.6, Alkalinity 80-120 ppm and the Calcium Hardness to 180-220 ppm.

-Shock the pool with chlorine or a non-chlorine shock. You should use 1 pound of chlorine or non-chlorine shock for every 10,000 gallons of water. The chlorine level should go back to 1.0-3.0 ppm before adding any winter algaecide.

-Reduce your water intensity in the pool by using a submersible pump or a filter pump. You should reduce the water level by 12” to 18” below the skimmer, also known as the mesh covers. If you have a floating cover, reduce by 3”-6” below the tile. If you have an in-ground or above ground vinyl lined pool, you’ll never have to worry about lowering water level for an Aquador skimmer cover.

-Any filtering, heating, pumping or chlorinating equipment should be drain to prevent your pool from freezing and cracking.
