Comparing Types of Automatic Pool Cleaners

automatic pool cleanerIf you’re a Maryland homeowner with a pool, chances are you’re familiar with the arduous task of cleaning your pool. Owning a Maryland pool comes with a host of wonderful benefits, but the repetition of clearing can sometimes make it seem like more trouble than it’s worth. Fortunately there’s a solution: an automatic pool cleaner. But which kind to buy? Sunrise Pool Builders is here to compare the three major types of automatic pool cleaners so you can find one that best suits your needs.

Pressure Pool Cleaner

A pressure automatic pool cleaner uses pressure from a water pump to clean your Maryland pool connecting to either your main circulation pump or a special booster pump. The pump uses water pressure to move the physical cleaner around the pool, which catches debris in its bag. A pressure automatic pool cleaner doesn’t move debris into your filter, which means you won’t have to spend as much time cleaning that, is great at cleaning up larger floating debris like leaves, and is very low maintenance. However it is less effective at removing fine particles and won’t clean your Maryland pool’s walls.

Suction Pool Cleaner

A suction automatic pool cleaner moves a vacuum along your Maryland pool’s floor, and some models will also clean pool walls as well. A suction automatic pool cleaner sucks debris into the pool filter which makes it especially suited for cleaning fine particles from the water. They are also typically less expensive than other automatic pool cleaners and typically cleans a pool faster. However, because they send debris through your filtration system you’ll have to spend more time cleaning your pump, and they are inefficient at handling large debris.

Robotic Pool Cleaner

An electrically powered, robotic automatic pool cleaner has a self-contained pump and filtration system, and usually contains a computer chip that learns over time to clean your pool more efficiently. They are effective at removing both large debris and fine particles from your Maryland pool, clean pool walls, and circulate pool water. But, their range is limited by the length of waterproof electrical cord, their built in pump and filters require frequent cleaning and they are more expensive than other automatic pool cleaners.
