3 Things You Must Do Before Installing a Pool

The last thing you want is to dig out a space for your pool just to realize that your local government doesn’t allow it!

A backyard pool is a really exciting investment, but also a big one that requires some planning. With proper planning and installation, your pool can provide you with fun and relaxation for years to come and can also add a lot of value to your home. However, you want to make sure you have considered everything before making the final decision. Here are three things you must do before installing a pool.

Check With Local Government

Before you dig a giant hole in your backyard, make sure to check with your local government first. Some areas do not allow pools and others require that your plan be approved before you begin installation. You also want to look into building codes because you don’t want unexpected costs to be added to your project. There would be nothing worse than beginning construction only to find out that it isn’t allowed in your area.

Contractor Research

Once you’ve checked your local government rules, the next step is to find a reliable contractor for the job. You don’t want to just pick the first contractor you come across. Instead, be sure to do a lot of research before making your final decision.  You want to look into a contractor’s references, look up reviews, visit their place of business, look at their previous projects, and confirm their insurance information. No contractors are exactly the same so you want to make sure you find a credible one that is going to suit your specific needs.

Get Bids

After you have narrowed down your top contractor choices, you want to get bids from each of them before making the final decision. It’s a good idea to pick a top three and see what prices they are offering for the same project. You don’t want to settle for the lowest bid without ensuring that the quality will still be good, but also don’t want to be overcharged. Most times, the middle ranged bids are probably the best bet for price and quality.
